Providing opportunities for students to engage with the natural world around them

As screen time continues to grow, urban sprawl takes over parks and open space areas, and outside recess time is cut from schools, fewer children are spending time outside. And this lack of engagement with nature can have devastating effects, both for our children's mental and physical health and their appreciation for the environment.
The Audacious Foundation seeks to create a world where children, even those in busy cities, can access meaningful programming and safe outdoor spaces to learn and play in nature.

We partner with a variety of nonprofits that create positive life experiences and programming for low-income children to explore, play and learn in nature.

Time spent learning and playing outdoors benefits the whole child and can help children reach their full potential. Outdoor education programming can enhance children's physical and mental health, from improving gut health, heart health and weight management to reducing stress and ADHD symptoms.

The benefits of school gardens are long-lasting. Supporting health and wellness, encouraging students to choose healthy foods, and fostering pride in growing food are some benefits students reap from school garden and edible forest programming. To date, our partners have installed 38 school gardens and edible forests across 11 districts, serving 14,000 kids.
